Working From Home
Working from home is such an amazing option for many people. Being a piano teacher in my home has been such a blessing for myself and my family. God gave me the desire to become a piano teacher in high school, and I started with my first students when I was 15. Having a home-based piano studio has not only allowed me to follow my passion for music and teaching, but it helped me provide for my children as a young widow.
Flexibility
One of the biggest benefits to me has been the flexibility. As a home-based piano teacher, I have the freedom to choose my own schedule, allowing me to prioritize family needs, creativity and commitments. After Jon died, it would have been very difficult for me to leave my children at daycare or school for someone else to help them process their Dad’s death. Because I worked from home and could set my own schedule, I was able to homeschool both of my kids from Kindergarten through high school. It was such a gift to be able to be together as a family and do life together each day. It allowed us the time and space to process the significant changes to our family and find a new rhythm to our days.
Provision
Having my own piano studio helped provide for our needs. As a newly widowed mom, I had no idea how we were going to make ends meet in this unexpected state. While I had a college degree and had worked in a variety of professions, I had been a stay at home Mom since my children were born. Finding a job, after being out of the workforce for several years, seemed overwhelming, especially with the heaviness and intensity of fresh grief. Because I had been a home studio owner for many years, I was able to advertise and increase the size of my piano studio. The Lord provided just the right students to fill our needs.
Connection
Working from home gave me a chance to continue to connect with people without the added stress of a commute. I have always loved interacting with people, and needed human connection, especially after Jon passed. Teaching piano permitted me to have those relationships in the comfort of my home.
God had a plan in place to provide for the kids and I, even before Jon and I met. He instilled in me a love of teaching piano, guided me to the training I needed, and helped me grow my studio. Because of that, I was able to meet our needs after Jon passed and help our family of three be together as we tried to figure out our new normal. It was not easy. It wasn’t always smooth. But being able to work from home was the best option for us at the time. I am thankful for this gift of a home-based piano studio.
